You can definitely sleep at night knowing that when Porsche engineers design a functional part of one of their cars, they've definitely done their homework. That being said, the 911 Turbo is essentially a mass-produced car, so those same engineers are subject to certain design constraints in order to make parts less expensive and easier to produce. The factory plastic Y-pipe on the 911 Turbo does a great job of collecting air from the intercoolers and directing it into the engine. Although most people consider the Y-pipe sort of a trivial part, meaning that Porsche didn't leave any potential performance on the table, the team at Werks1 certainly saw an opportunity to improve air flow and performance that many others overlooked.
The first thing you'll notice about the Werks1 carbon fiber Y-pipe is that it's beautiful to look at. The perfect carbon fiber weave is finished in a stunning glossy clearcoat and includes all the factory bevels and fittings making it a perfect fitting direct replacement for the Porsche's part. But it's what you can't see that makes the Werks1 Y-pipe actually perform better then the original. Because it's constructed of 100% carbon fiber rather then a cosmetic overlay, Werks1 was able to make the outer dimensions of the Y-pipe identical to the factory part, while using thinner walls that actually increase the inner diameter by up to 10%. This increase in inner diameter allows a greater amount of air to flow to exactly where it's needed most, the engine. Best of all, the Werks1 carbon fiber Y-pipe weighs in at a measly .5 lbs, nearly two pounds lighter then the plastic part you're going to replace with it. Good looks, better performance, and lighter weight. What are you waiting for, add the Werks1 Y-pipe to your shopping cart and see what you've been missing.
