An essential part of the Champion Motorsport power package for the 997.1 Turbo are these beautiful upgraded Billet VTG Turbochargers. While most other manufacturers simply modify the existing compressor housing of the VTG turbochargers or replace them with traditional turbos, Champion Motorsport has gone a different route. To maximize the efficiency and potential power output of the 997 Turbo, Champion chose to expand on the existing VTG technology rather then abandon it. The result is a proprietary turbocharger capable of dramatically higher power output with an improved billet compressor housing, a more efficient 7-blade compressor wheel, and re-profiled turbine. Best of all, they retain the VTG controller which nearly eliminates the lag that typically plagues turbocharged engines.
The factory VTG turbo has a 60mm exducer and 43.8mm inducer on the compressor side. In order to match the increased demand coming from the re-profiled turbine, the compressor wheel on the CMS turbos has been increased to 65mm (exducer) and 46.9mm (inducer). In order to accommodate the increased flow through the compressor, it was necessary to design an entirely new compressor housing. The factory compressor housing simply cannot match flow beyond the 63.5mm exducer size which is the industry norm in VTG upgrades. The billet compressor housing was specifically designed to provide maximum flow in the most efficient way possible.
