Even we’ll admit that the 997 Turbo literally felt like a rocket ship the first time we drove one. It represented Porsche’s most powerful 911 to date and featured VTG (variable turbine geometry) technology responsible for producing a staggering 480 horsepower and 460 lb/ft of torque, propelling the 997 Turbo from zero to 60 mph in less then 4 seconds. As if the performance of the 997 Turbo wasn’t impressive enough, a few simple modifications can push it to levels that surpass even the most elite supercars of the world. As with any turbocharged engine, the 997 Turbo is always hungry for air, and the more the better. IPD developed their intake plenum for the 997 Turbo with that exact thought in mind: get more air into the engine, quicker and more efficiently. The plenum’s unique diversion splitter and “Y” shaped design allow airflow to be smoothed and directed without the turbulence created by the OEM plastic “T” shaped plenum. Airflow into the engine is optimized, resulting in increased boost response and power increases across the entire rpm range.
