The 996 Turbo was Porsche’s first water-cooled 911. It also quickly became one of the most commonly modified Porsche models in the lineup, with an endless range of available aftermarket upgrades. From complete power packages to cosmetic add-ons, the aftermarket has left no stone unturned when it comes to the 996 Turbo, or so it seemed. IPD quickly realized the benefit of replacing the factory plastic intake plenum with their 74mm cast aluminum replacement, giving 996 Turbo owners yet another way to boost the already impressive performance of the platform. As with any turbocharged motor, the 996 Turbo motor relies on an efficient and constant flow of intake air to make power. The IPD 74mm intake plenum uses a unique diversion splitter to eliminate turbulence by smoothing and directing the flow of air into the engine at a much higher rate. By doing so, power gains of 30-35 hp are realized over the mid rpm range. Although the IPD 74mm plenum is designed to be a direct replacement for the OEM plastic unit, it does require the use of the larger 997 Turbo throttle body to accommodate its 74mm diameter.
